18th century Connecticut River Valley armchair

This comfortable armchair has attractive turned maple posts and simple ash stretchers. The arms are embellished with a single turned groove at each end and a pair near the midpoint. The back of the chair is fitted with an ash rail, which was designed to support a blanket, converting the chair to a small settle during the colder months. Remnants of old red paint give the chair a warm color without masking the grain of the wood. One of the rear posts has been repaired below the rear stretcher.
