Two-tiered brass chandelier

This magnificent brass chandelier was made in the 19th century in the manner of Dutch chandeliers of the 17th. Each of its 12 arms is made of solid brass and is held in place by a brass pin. Before we owned it, each candle cup had been fitted with an electrical socket, 38 holes had been drilled in the central shaft, drip pans, and candle sockets, and electrical wires had been attached to the outside of each arm - a common means of "modernizing" period chandeliers. The wires have been removed, and the holes have been filled by one of the best restorers in the trade today, so that they are virtually invisible. (Overall diameter: 25-1/2"; height: 26")
