Jan and John Maggs Antiques
17th century oak armchair
This early chair boasts elaborately turned and carved front posts, gracefully shaped arms, and strongly turned stretchers. Its plank seat is supported by a shaped apron, and its back is upholstered in leather. Solid and comfortable. English, ca. 1680. The evidently worn ends of the arms have been repaired by the application of a thin strip of oak, shaped and colored to match perfectly and to be noticeable only upon close examination - a noteworthy restoration.
