Found near the Welsh border in England, this is one of the best stools we’ve purchased. The single-board top is held to the base by four wooden pegs. The base is comprised of four baluster-turned legs, joined at the seat to apron rails, each planed with a detailed moulding and shaped at its lower edge. At the bottom are narrower, unmoulded stretchers. The upper joints are fixed with double pegs; the lower, by single pegs. Each leg terminates in a small, turned foot.

The stool has been given a light coating of fine furniture wax, which brings out its deep color. We find no repairs or replacements. There is some wear to the center of the seat, but it is intact and very durable.

English, 1660 – 80

Seat: 17 ¼” x 10 ¾”; Height: 21”
