This is a lovely Georgian ring which has been closed-back set with a citrine in 18k gold, foiled that is washed with a mixture of oil and vinegar--an unusual treatment done in the early 1800’s.

The central mount is enclosed in a gold halo; there are acanthus leaves engraved at the split shoulders, leading to a cinched scribe line, and floral decoration toward the flat back of the shank.

The varying tone color of this ring, which is a size 7, is the effect known as oil and vinegar.

French or English, early 1800’s.
