POST-ENGLAND GRAND OPENING
We've just returned from a three-week visit to the British Isles, spending two weeks buying at English antiques fairs and from the twenty-odd dealers and shops with whom we've developed a working relationship during the past several years. Because the dollar-to-pound ratio has reached new depths in recent months, we landed in London full of trepidation, wondering if we would be able to afford to buy anything. To our amazement, good things were available to buy, at prices that were often reasonable. Some of this was surely because many English dealers, feeling the pinch of reduced trade with dealers in the US, were willing to meet us part-way, but much of it was the result of a small measure of good fortune and a great deal of hard work. (To see what we mean, take a look at our schedule during the first few days in A BRIEF DIARY OF OUR APRIL BUYING TRIP).
The result is a well above-average lot of new finds, both smalls and furniture, which will be available for viewing and sale in our shop from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, May 1 and 2. As our regulars have come to expect, we'll have refreshments all day, which will become slightly more potent after noon. We hope that you'll be able to come.
