A Unique Set of Dutch Tiles

It is quite rare in the 21st century to come across more than a few 17th century Dutch tiles of a single series at one time. We are fortunate in having in our current inventory a set of forty-two, installed in a Massachusetts home at the beginning of the 20th century, when such sets were evidently more available than now, and salvaged recently before the house was taken down.

With such a resource at our disposal, it seems like the ideal time to consider briefly some aspects of these early decorative artworks that make them appealing more than three hundred years after their manufacture.
