Rhinebeck: May 2011
When we were invited to exhibit at Rhinebeck nearly two decades ago, we joined a group of distinguished antiques dealers at one of the most popular shows in the Northeast. The quality and variety of material these dealers brought to the show, and the attention everyone paid to imaginative presentation provided us with incentive and inspiration to improve our own decorating skills. While many of the large, upscale shows at which we've sold present irritating logistical challenges to dealers, Rhinebeck's buildings are easy to access, and the show's staff has always been among the most helpful and accommodating in the business. Consequently, this show has always been exceptionally rewarding.
In recent years, Rhinebeck has not been immune from the economic downturn. Because it is a relatively expensive show, some dealers have decided to give it up. The decline has been noticed by dealers and buyers alike, and the show's management has been slow to respond.
We're happy to say that the Bill Walter Shows management has recently made a particularly aggressive effort to address these issues. As we look at Rhinebeck's new website and the listing of dealers for the May show, we see many newcomers, including several well known and highly respected dealers. We think that the May show will be interesting as much for its long and proud tradition as for the surprises we hope to find.
The format of the show will be much the same as it has been in the recent past. All dealers are indoors in walled, papered booths, and this eclectic show always looks great. The Dutchess County Fairgrounds are beautiful and well-kept, and good food is available in conveniently located stands. Parking is free and close to the show, and there are well-maintained indoor toilets.
