Unusual woven grass bee skep on wooden base

A primitive structure for containing and producing honey, the skep is traditionally woven of grass or straw. Although skeps have been largely supplanted by more modern hives, they were used for centuries in central and northern Europe , as well as in the British Isles. This example, on a wooden base with its small entry for bees at the bottom, is quite rare, compared to the more common straw baskets. (See our #17857 and #17858).

Base: 18½" x 15"

Height: 15¾"
