Chinese burl scholar's tray

We're having a hard time finding documentation on this little tray, but we believe it to have been carved from a burl by a Chinese scholar, probably around 1800. It is, at any rate, a delicately fashioned, hand-polished piece of rich hardwood. Its handle is so fine that it has broken adjacent to a hole in the burl's surface. Length: 10¾"; height 5½"
