A 17th-century stoneware Bellarmine or Bartmann jug

A somewhat diminutive example of this early ceramic container for beer or spirits. These jugs are prized for their distinctive salt-glazed “tigerware” surface and the characteristic round medallions and bearded man faces that dominate their bellies. The jug and its applied handle are in very good condition.
