This hand-held device emits a loud, piercing sound when spun. These rattles were commonly used by police and fire watchmen in the 18th and 19th centuries. This particularly boisterous example was made by the firm of Bagshaw and Field, which was active between the 1880’s and around 1931 in Philadelphia. In very good condition and LOUD!
