A beautiful solitaire ring in 15k gold has a closed-back, crimped and bezel set, foiled faceted black-dot* diamond paste stone in silver. The diamond paste measures 6 x 7.5mm set. The verso of the gold mounting has a sun rayed, or tart-pan design. The smooth gold shank joins the central mounting at the shoulders. The ring is late Georgian, English, and is currently a size 8-8.5.
Gift Fest Price: $295
*The "black-spot/black-dot" pastes are so named because the jewelers in the 1700's, and earlier, would sometimes rub a spot (or dot) of black, pitch-like paint across the flat cut or pointed bottom of the culet (under) of some faceted paste stones. It was often used to create the look of mine cut or European cut diamonds or gemstones when the stone was viewed from the top (or table).
